A golf course builder from Sidmouth can now count football superstar Gareth Bale among his clientele after creating a three-hole course in the Galatico’s back garden.
Warren Bailey and his company SouthWest GreensUK was chosen for the project to build the short course, inspired by the Welsh international’s favourite golf venues.
The five-month project saw the company work with SouthWest Greens Construction and James Edwards, of Edwards Design International, to install state-of-the-art synthetic turf and lawns at the footballer’s home in Wales.
The designs are modelled on the 12th hole at Augusta, the 17th at TPC Sawgrass and the ‘Postage Stamp’, or 8th hole, at Royal Troon. They all play the exact same distance as the holes they are based on.
The course is made of the company’s ‘pro system’ golf solution, which can replicate the exact same playability of tournament-specified golf greens with minimum maintenance required.
Warren, the managing director of SouthWest GreensUK, said: “I am very proud of what we and the team achieved – it was a total pleasure in delivering this project for Gareth and we pushed all boundaries to achieve the highest level.
“Golf hole construction is an area we are a specialist in and we hope that this coverage inspires more people to consider synthetics as a viable solution for golf where natural grass may not be an option for maintenance and location reasons.”
Sidmouth resident Warren was an electrical engineer for 20 years before he began to run his own business.
Warren, who lives with partner Vicky, said: “At every stage on every project we heavily involve the client.
“It is a lifestyle product and will create pleasure for the owner for many years to come, and, in most cases, they want to be involved – it’s key to deliver and understand any specifics they want included, while ensuring that we deliver that with a solution that works for synthetics, and the landscaping of the area to blend the transition between natural and synthetic seamlessly.”
