The museum will open again on Saturday, March 23, with a series of new displays that will celebrate 100 years of the RAF and the Duchess of Devonshire paddle steamer.

Nigel Hyman, curator, said he hopes many residents will stop by to see what the museum has to offer.

Mr Hyman said: “Another major new display is concerned with the remarkable part played by Sidmouth women in the battle for suffrage in the late 19th century and up to the decisive 1918 Representation of the People Act, a century ago.”

Also new this year is a natural history exhibit featuring a large display of butterflies and a re-creation of Miss Barnard’s lace shop which stood on Old Fore Street.

The displays will also feature the extraordinary stories of people who lived in the town.
