Tackling crime involving dangerous drug networks, thefts from vehicles and fatal and serious road collisions are among the top priorities for Sidmouth police.

Sidmouth Neighbourhood Policing Team revealed its 'Connectivity Plan' this week outlining its main priorities and how officers plan to engage with the public.

Police priorities are identified by using reported crime trends, issues and concerns raised by members of the public and other issues that have been earmarked through community profile data.

At the top of the list for Sidmouth was dangerous drug networks. Officers will be taking a joint approach to this issue working with East Devon District Council (EDDC), housing associations, social services, health services, education and local businesses.

Second on the list was rural car crime - theft from motor vehicles - and officers will be continuing their work to raise awareness and tackle the problem with the help of Clinton Devon Estates, English Heritage, National Trust and EDDC.

Another top priority was fatal and serious road traffic collisions - the force will be taking another joint approach and working with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Devon County Council's highways department, local businesses and selected local motoring events to try and tackle the problem.

The document states: "How we are preventing crime - we make ourselves accessible to you face to face and via technology to find out what matters to our communities.

"We work with statutory and voluntary agencies, sharing information to identify and safeguard the vulnerable within our communities.

"We work with our partner agencies to target known offenders in our communities and bring them to justice."

The police will engage with the public at various events including police surgeries at Waitrose, crime and safety roadshows, Sid Vale Publicans Association meetings, Rural East Devon Road Safety events, town and parish council meetings, primary and secondary school sessions and Gateway Homeless Action Group meetings.

The connectivity plan also reveals what the town's officers have been doing this year within the community - detailing the 34 community engagement events.
