SIDMOUTH Town Council was celebrating an early Christmas present yesterday after landing a £1,600 lottery grant that will boost residents who want to view planning applications.

The cash was handed to the town as part of the Big Lottery Fund’s £600,000 Awards for All funding programme giveaway.

Town council clerk Trina Jarrett said the money will be used to upgrade technology, including a large screen and projector system, used to display planning applications to councillors and the public at Woolcombe House.

She added: “We’re delighted. It wasn’t easy, we had to jump through quite a few hoops to get the money. It is the first time we’ve applied for any grant, so we’re really pleased.”
