Sidmouth Nursing Home achieves ‘outstanding’ in CQC report

A Sidmouth care home which puts its residents’ wellbeing and happiness at the centre of its service has been rated ‘outstanding’ by health inspectors.
Sidmouth Nursing Home in Winslade Road was rated ‘good’ in three areas and considered ‘outstanding’ for its management and levels of care by the Care Quality Commission.
The report said people experienced exceptional high standards of care and that staff operate an open, friendly and well led service.
Julie Casely, the nominated individual for the care home, said the rating was achieved by a superb group of staff who worked ‘tirelessly’ to improve and maintain the quality of care for residents.
She said: “I do not underestimate this accolade. I would like to emphasise that my team possess personal qualities that can only be admired. They are kind, compassionate, hardworking and skilled. Most importantly, they are committed to providing an environment which celebrates the individual, allowing life to be enjoyable for our residents, where they are loved and respected.

The home, which looks after residents with dementia and other mental and physical needs, was rated good overall in 2015.

In the latest report, the inspector said: “People’s wellbeing and happiness was central to this service and the management and staff team actively promoted a person centre culture.
“Strong trusting relationships have been developed between staff, people using the services and their relatives. Staff displayed great compassion and empathy for people in their care. Staff treated people with respect and maintained their dignity and privacy.”
The home was also praised for its inclusive ethos and focusing on the individual rather than their diagnosis or condition.
Deborah Ivanova, deputy chief inspector for adult social care, said; “The staff and management of Sidmouth Nursing Home have demonstrated their commitment to providing exceptional, high quality, person-centred care and it is clear that people’s well-being and happiness is at the very heart of its operation. The staff and management should be proud of this achievement.”
