A 76-year-old Sidmouth man has been heli-lifted to hospital after collapsing on the coast path between Branscombe and Beer today (Wednesday 22)

The pensioner was rescued from a track beneath Hooken cliffs between midday and 1pm.

He was in “quite a bad way” and drifting in and out of consciousness due to probable heat exhaustion, said Beer coastguard, Terry Hoare.

The stricken walker’s two companions called the emergency services.

Paramedics treated him at the scene for up to 25 minutes before he was winched to the helicopter and flown to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
