A pensioner was reunited with his missing bicycle after it was spotted hanging from a lamppost.

Robert Crick, 72, appealed for the return of his beloved bike after it went missing from his Glenisla Terrace home on the night of Sidmouth Carnival.

Robert was particularly grateful to Streetlife user ‘Irene H’ – who spotted the cycle hanging from a lamppost in Blackmore Gardens – and the district council’s StreetScene team for recovering it.

He gave this message to whoever took his 35-year-old Raleigh touring bike: “I apologise for foolishly placing temptation in your way by leaving my bike unattended and unlocked near the Ham during the funfair. Thank-you for giving me the chance to discover again what a brilliant community Sidmouth is. Nobody deserves to be hanged from a lamppost, but I am renaming my unharmed bike Benito.”

Robert had the bicycle checked over by WV Fish. He said: “The gears, lights and brakes are all in good order for me – or perhaps for someone else who may ‘borrow’ it – to use during the winter.”
