WITH one of the most successful summers under their belt, staff at Sidmouth Playscheme are looking ahead to their next period of activities.
The Ofsted registered group, based at Sidmouth Sports Centre, has been running since 1989 and offers children between the ages of five and 12 a fun environment to play during the school holidays.
Zara Tsigarides, Playscheme co-ordinator, said last summer attracted a peak of 26 children to the group.
She said: "It's a good opportunity for children in holiday time to have something to do-so they are not on the streets or getting bored at home.
"It is also a good chance for them to try different sports which they probably don't do at school and to mix with other children."
Summer activities were a mix of traditional and lesser-known sports including uni-hockey, basketball, table-top tennis and archery.

The next Playscheme will take place during half-term (October 26 to October 30).
Zara has already lined-up a number of activities including visits from Sidmouth Police and taekwondo, soccer and trampolining instructors.
She is also planning a Halloween party at the end of the week where the children will be invited to wear fancy dress and take part in spooky themed activities.
Zara added: "We also hope it encourages them to join sport clubs and as the London Olympics are coming up it is a brilliant time to promote being active."
The opening times are from 8.30am-5pm and children can spend different amounts of time with the group depending on their parent's work commitments.
People booking the October half-term Playscheme will get 10 per cent discount if they book before October 14.
