Police station closure rumour squashed by Sidmouth sergeant

THERE is no foundation to rumours that Sidmouth could lose its police station in the near future.

“I’m hearing rumours, all sorts of things. Will it always be manned or not?” Councillor Graham Liverton asked PC Tyrell, the town’s neighbourhood beat manager, at Monday’s meeting of Sidmouth Town Council.

“How long is a piece of string? I really can’t say,” replied PC Tyrell, who said there were three police and three PCSOs at the station, with back-up coming from other police around East Devon when needed.

Sergeant Andy Turner told the Herald: “Its not shutting. I’ve not heard anything to suggest it will. That is a non-starter.”
