BREAKING NEWS: 2.50pm: Power appears to be being restored to parts of Sidmouth, our reporters say, almost an hour after the supply was cut off.
Dozens of businesses saw a temporary closure after supplies were cut off this afternoon.
Homes in Salcombe Hill Road were also affected, but EDDC's offices, the health centre and hospital kept their power supply.

BREAKING NEWS: 2.35pm: Ice creams are melting in Sidmouth as businesses continue to suffer in the power blackout which is hitting the town.
Reporterss in the field say homes in Fortfield Chambers have been cut off. Woolworths, HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds and Potburys have been forced to stop trading.
In the High Street, Martins newsagents and Threshers have also seen their tills grind to a standstill.
The power cut is particularly bad because of the good weather which has brought many tourists out.
The top end of the high Street, including the Herald office, still have power.

BREAKING NEWS: 2.15pm: A massive power cut has hit the centre of Sidmouth.
Shops across town are closing every minute as staff find they cannot use their tills, scales and other equipment.
Stores which have been particularly badly hit include those which have refrigeration units.
Our reporter says a number of banks, Boots the Chemist and New Look have already closed their doors to customers.
A spokesman for Western Power Distribution said a fault had been reported just after 2pm, and that a repair team was on its way, but could give no further details.
