Gig Club fun
A QUIZ night raised 800 towards Sidmouth Gig Club’s bid to buy a wooden boat.
Participants were invited aboard ‘Alma Airways Flight 101’ as part of the all things airborne-themed evening.
Riotous fun was had as quiz winners were decided in a grand finale that involved revellers having to construct an airship to safely land an egg flown from the balcony of the Port Royal to the pavement below.
Winning team, named The Gang of Four, held on to a narrow lead to secure victory.
They were awarded Spitfire beer and a book of the same title.
Organisers thanked local businesses who donated raffle prizes.
They included Fields, Fords, Gliddons, Homebase, Sweet Temptation, The Swan Inn and Utopia.
East Devon District Council also chipped in.
Winchester’s and Vinnicombes were thanked for supporting a supper.
A paragliding flight, kindly donated by Paul Hook, was auctioned and bought by Kay Bagwell.
Colin the crab, caught earlier in the day and donated for auction, was returned to the sea by his kind new owner.
Alma, the club’s gig, celebrates her first birthday on August 28.
