Three sites earmarked for state-of-the-art 2 million recycling centre in Sidmouth

THREE sites, including one at The Bowd, Sidmouth, have been earmarked as suitable sites for a state-of-the-art recycling centre costing nearly 2 million.

It would replace the one at Woods Farm, whose planning permission expires in 2012 and is not “deemed suitable to cope with increasing volumes of recyclable material” by Devon County Council.

The council is holding a public exhibition at The Bowd Inn from 3pm to 8pm, on Tuesday, September 28, for people to discuss the three potential sites identified for the new centre with county officers.

The council is keen to get the public’s opinion on which of the three proposed locations - The Bowd, Core Hill Lane or Two Bridges Road, Sidford – they favour.

All will be dependent on planning permission.

Councillor Roger Croad, cabinet member for environmental and regulatory services at DCC said it was important to keep people informed about its plans for the new Sidmouth Recycling Centre and said the exhibition gave people the chance to look at three sites and which they favour.

Sidmouth, Sidford County Councillor Stuart Hughes, said: “A new state-of-the-art recycling facility is badly needed in Sidmouth.

“Planning permission on the old Wood Farm site is due to expire and unlikely to be extended. We want to hear residents’ views on their preferred site and invite Sidmouth people to come to the exhibition or visit the website.”

If you cannot attend the meeting, leaflets enabling you to send your opinions to DCC will be available at Woods Farm Recycling Centre.

Mr Hughes said Woods Farm would not become a gypsy/traveller site after being decommissioned as a recycling centre as had been considered in the past.
