Molly Morton is the smiling and helpful face you see when you pop into Flutterbys on Sidmouth High Street to buy a nice gift or memento.

The 20-year-old, who lives in Manstone Avenue, was born in Wales and moved to Sidmouth, where her mum was born, when she was six.

As well as working weekends at Flutterbys, the former Sidmouth College student works night shifts in the week for Home Safeguard - an East Devon District Council service.

She is the kind and calming voice many vulnerable and elderly people hear when they press their emergency alarms and need reassurance while help is on its way.

Molly said: “Sometimes I do a night shift there and then go straight to Flutterbys. I just enjoy working.

“At the call centre, I am there to reassure them that help is coming to them.

“I love my job - when you know you have helped someone and you are potentially saving lives, it is a really good feeling.”

As well as juggling her two jobs, Molly spends a lot of time with the Sidmouth Amateur Dramatic Society - dubbing the Manor Pavilion a second home.

“I got into drama in school and my teacher recommended I try doing a play,” she said.

“It is the adrenaline and feeling you get when you are on stage that is the best - when it is the final curtain call at the end of the show and you feel like your months of hard work is really appreciated.”

Molly said her job at Flutterbys mainly involved retail work and sorting out stock.

She added they did, however, do workshops and parties in the room upstairs, which meant she got to enjoy showing people how to make jewellery and other pretty things.

“It is such a bright and excellent place to work. I get to make lots of different things here. I like it when people come in and ask you to make something particular and they come back to collect it and are really happy – it is such a nice feeling.”

On top of her jobs, commitments to the theatre and making time for her mum and boyfriend, Molly is also trying to teach herself to become a costume maker.

When asked what her dreams were for the future Molly, who is a big Game of Thrones fan, said she was quite happy and grateful for everything she had in Sidmouth.

“I want to save and get a house in Sidmouth,” said Molly. “All my friends want to move away, but I don’t. I have lived somewhere else before and I appreciate how lovely Sidmouth is.

“I feel lucky with what I have got. I love the feel of Sidmouth – it is such a close knit community. Everyone knows everyone here.” n
