EVERYTHING went swimmingly for the third Sidmouth Rotary Swimathon on Saturday evening.

With 136 swimmers taking part in 23 teams at the Sidmouth Rotary Club fundraiser, there was eager competition to swim the most lengths and this was achieved by the Masonic Lodge team, who swam 156 lengths.

Rotarian Nigel Sharp said: "They were followed by the St Nicholas Junior School parents, with 148 lengths and Sidmouth Garden Centre were third with 118."

He made special mention of Lauren Bradshaw who swam for East Devon District Council on her own in one lane for 96 lengths in the allotted 55 minutes.

This year St Nicholas School will benefit from the swimathon and the amount raised through sponsorship will be published at the end of November.

"It was a great fun event and the Rotary Club look forward to next year, with hopefully more businesses raising a team, providing funds for a well-deserved charity," said Nigel.
