Devon Air Ambulance has received a £400 boost from Sidmouth Rugby Club.

Members raised the money during its annual charity sevens day which took place on May Bank Holiday.

The club launched a partnership with the charity to use its pitches in Sidmouth and Sidford as landing sites.

Sidmouth Town Council spent £5,000 to adapt floodlights so they can be switched on at night remotely before the air ambulance comes in to land.

Lester Wilmington, chairman of Sidmouth Rugby Club, said: “As a club we are trying to be more of a part of the community. Where there are things that have a direct community benefit we are happy to be able to support them.

“We try to raise money for a charity that are used in the town and we thought as the Air Ambulance land and take off from our sites we would continue to support them.

“If there are any events the air ambulance can now fly into the town and Sidford and whisk people away as quickly as possible.”
