A group of six friends have successfully gone dry for January to raise more than £500 for Cancer Research.
Matt Farrington, Luke Bess, Zachary Bess, Sam Cavin, Luke Wells-Burr and Rory O’Brien, said it was a ‘small sacrifice’ to forgo alcohol for a month to raise money for the cause.
The lads, who play rugby together and are nicknamed the swans, wanted to support their friend Stacey Thomson, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26.
Matt, 27, said: “When we initially set the target, we didn’t know how well people would take to it. It’s just a group of guys giving up alcohol and £100 a head might be a big target but we seen top have done that and then some.
“We all play rugby and there is quite a social scene and it hasn’t been easy. It feels good that we have managed to do it.”
