Sidmouth Methodist church offers shelter from rain for Salvation Army band

IT should have been held in Connaught Gardens, but this year’s Hymns in the Park with the Salvation Army, took shelter from the rain at Sidmouth Methodist Church.

The decision to transfer the popular outdoor service was made after a rainy weather forecast, said Mike Edgecumbe, former chairman of Churches Together in Sidmouth.

A large gathering of residents, visitors and Salvation Army members from Ottery St. Mary and Exmouth, were at the service, which was led by Major Steven Watson on the theme God so loved the world.

Music, provided by the Exeter Temple Salvation Army Band, was under the leadership of bandmaster Peter Woolway.

Mike, who thanked Major Watson and Mr Woolway at the end of the service, said that whatever the future of CTiS, arrangements would be made for the Salvation Army to return to Sidmouth next year.
