POLICE who found an empty safe in a Sidmouth country lane have linked it to a burglary in which more than £3,500 of tools were stolen from an Ottery St Mary property.

POLICE who found an empty safe in a Sidmouth country lane have linked it to a burglary in which more than £3,500 of tools were stolen from an Ottery St Mary property.

Detectives are investigating the theft of the safe and various power and garden tools from an address in Holcombe Lane, Ottery, between 6pm on Friday, October 22 and 8am the following day.

The empty safe was found on Sunday, October 24, at around 2.30pm at Putts Corner on the A375.

Investigating officers have asked residents to keep an eye out for Makita power tools and Stihl garden tools, being sold locally, and to contact police if their suspicions are aroused.
