SUPPORT has been given to plans by St Nicholas Junior School, Woolbrook, to permanently retain an existing modular classroom block after town planners heard that funding for its expansion plans may not be available for several years.

Sidmouth Town Council's planning committee, meeting on Wednesday, backed the school's application after Councillor Peter Sullivan said the school had big expansion plans but funding was not fully available until possibly 2012 because of the economic climate.

Councillor Chris Wale said: "I am very happy to support this. The school has flourished and invested very heavily over the years.
