SCHOOLS in Sidmouth and the surrounding areas are being encouraged to apply for the Artsmark award.
This scheme, which is entering its tenth year, has a strong impact on a school's curriculum activities and the experiences available for its pupils.
East Devon District Council is supporting this project and a spokesperson said: "It raises the profile and importance of arts education, encouraging schools to work together and supporting professional development for teachers.
"Currently Kilmington Primary School holds an Artsmark and we would love to encourage more of our schools to apply and benefit from this terrific scheme."
The three levels to achieve are Artsmark, Artsmark Silver and Artsmark Gold. The current round of applications started this week and the deadline for submissions is November 18 2010.
