SIDMOUTH businesses could be set for a tourism boost this weekend as an estimated 11.9 million Britons will take a break within the UK.
Figures released by VisitEngland estimate that millions will make the most of the last bank holiday of the summer by taking a trip, but not venturing abroad.
The annual survey shows that 29 per cent of the population will be taking a trip of one night or more somewhere in the world.
However, results over the last three years suggest an increasing preference for breaks closer to home. The share of overseas trips on this bank holiday weekend has fallen by 10 per cent since 2007.
