VOLUNTARY groups in Sidmouth have joined forces to reach out to anyone worried about memory loss.
They will offer help, information and advice at a special ‘one-shop’ awareness morning next month, writes Kingsley Squire.
The ‘Memory Matters’ event, organised by the Sidmouth Locality Health and Social Care Team, takes place from 10am at the Methodist Church Hall on March 16.
Seen as another example of the community helping itself amid growing concern about the early diagnosis and treatment of dementia in the Sid Valley area, it aims to promote a better understanding of memory problems and how to manage physical and mental wellbeing.
“We want to help anyone worried about memory loss and especially those who, for whatever reason, have not sought advice and help,” team chairman Ian Skinner told the Herald this week. “Our awareness morning will provide quite a wealth of information about the support that, once sought out, is freely available here.”
Groups taking part in the two-hour event, which is backed by Sidmouth Hospital, include Age UK, Sid Valley Memory Caf�, Home Safeguard, the Carers Support Group and Sidmouth Voluntary Services.
