STREET lights that appeared on a gateway into Sidmouth will be removed after civic leaders took a dim view of one obscuring a sign welcoming visitors.

Town council chairman Stuart Hughes, also Devon’s highways chief, said two lampposts at Stowford Corner will be taken away next week – and one will be moved to the other side of the road.

Councillor Hughes had described three street lights being erected within metres of each other, as part of a housing development in Woolbrook Road, as “overkill”.
