A DIY SOS-style makeover to Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club has been made possible thanks to a national building company stepping in to help.

Construction company Willmott Dixon funded £20,000 of labour and materials to redecorate and refurbish the club’s premises.

A team of electricians, carpenters, and volunteers spent a fortnight fitting out the double garage at Port Royal for the club to store its racing equipment, and decorating the club house at the Arches, on Sidmouth sea front.

Dave Manley, Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club chairman, said: “The improvements have not only saved the club money but have allowed its volunteers to concentrate on providing club activities for the children and young people in the club.”

A spokesperson for Willmott Dixon said: “In a DIY SOS-type project, the company approached contractors and suppliers to provide free materials and equipment while staff took time off work to do the refurbishment.”
