Sidmouth Esplanade covered in pebbles after Tuesday’s storm

SIDMOUTH came off fairly lightly after Tuesday’s wind and storms, although the Esplanade was pebble-dashed on Wednesday morning.

No major issues were reported to East Devon District Council, but there was some flooding of low-lying land and roads around Sidmouth and a few properties in the Feniton/Ottery St Mary area were flooded.

An EDDC spokesman said: “One of our officers took part in a silver control conference call, but there were no actions for EDDC as a result.

“Our Technical Officers were out yesterday checking all EDDC-owned flood alleviation channels, clearing blockages and ensuring the systems are working.

“There is some road sweeping of mud and flood debris from roads which flooded to be undertaken and this will be completed by early next week.”

More rain could come this way tonight and tomorrow morning, and the Environment Agency will keep the council informed of the likelihood of further flooding.

Homeowners concerned about the possibility of flooding should contact the EA floodline for advice on (0845) 988 1188.
