The Rotary Club of Sidmouth has announced the return of the popular ‘Town Swimathon’ which is scheduled to take place at the Sidmouth Swimming Pool on Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Due to the pandemic cancelling the event in 2020, the Rotary Club has decided to honour their promise to last year's beneficiaries of the charity swim.
The chosen beneficiaries of the event are: The Sidmouth Hospiscare, The Sidmouth Memory Cafe and The Sidmouth Surf and Life saving Club.
Rotarian Nigel Sharp reports that the Hospiscare and Memory Cafe have always figured in the Swimathon plans and this year they are supporting the Sidmouth Surf and Life saving Club for the first time.
“Rotary always tries to support children’s activities and when you are on the seafront you can see all the young surfers on their surfboards. Money raised will help David Manley develop the Club and the important Life saving objectives,” he said.
The last Swimathon that took place in 2019 saw 25 teams enter the competition with over 180 swimmers. Nigel said: “It’s a proven fun event and Rotary are hopeful this year that the public, who have been starved of raising money for charity, will take part.
“The majority of the teams are fun swimmers with no pressure involved. However, thanks to a donation from the Victoria Hotel, the more competitive teams now have a chance to win a huge trophy. The current holders of the trophy are the Golf Club Elite team.
“Come on you rugby boys and cricketers, where are you for the challenge?”
