SIDMOUTH taxis will have on-the-spot safety checks following a crackdown on Exmouth taxi drivers.

On Friday, February 20 East Devon District Council's Licensing Service and police uncovered a worrying catalogue of faults ranging from minor defects to complete un-roadworthiness.

A total of 29 taxis were checked and 10 drivers were issued with prohibition notices. Taxi drivers in Sidmouth are now being warned to make sure their taxis are road-worthy.
