TWO teaching assistants at St Nicholas Junior School, Woolbrook, have received awards from Devon County Council during a special ceremony for 125 staff across the county.

Teaching assistant Lesley Clapp has gained her NVQ3, while Dawn Crockett gains her A1 assessor qualification.

Some 109 teaching assistants also received the prestigious Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification at a special awards ceremony.

Dawn, who has been at the school five years, said she was currently assessing three TAs at the school and also worked as its special educational needs co-ordinator.

Lesley has worked at the school for around 10 years and is now working towards her HLTA after gaining her NVQ3 award.

Most of the training is done within school.

Judith Johnson, Devon County Council's Director of Learning, praised them and others at the ceremony for their hard work and dedication in gaining the new qualifications.

"This is a significant achievement and a credit to your hard work as well as to your schools for supporting you and making these awards such a success," she said.
