The teenager is raising money to fund one week of fundraising into conditions like hers and was supported by the community on Wear A Hat Day.
A Sidmouth family has thanked the community for their ‘staggering support’ to raise more than £2,500 for Brain Tumour Research.
Charlotte Reid, 16, was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour in 2015 and last year set up a fundraiser to fund a week of research into conditions like hers.
To mark Brain Tumour Research’s Wear a Hat Day, schools, businesses and organisations put on their best headwear for the teenager.
So far, Charlotte has raised £6,244 of her £19,000 total which will go towards research at Plymouth University.
Charlotte’s mum Angela said: “It’s brilliant, we had a lot of help from a lot of people. It’s a staggering amount that we did not expect to raise.
“We’re nearly a third of the way there, it’s a really good start and we have lots of ideas in the pipeline.”
The family thanked residents, Sidmouth College, Branscombe Primary School, Sid Vale Productions, Lala Choir, Devon & Cornwall Police, Fatface, Sambaties, Gliddons and Leisure East Devon for helping on the day.
