A NEW zebra crossing will be installed on Stowford Rise, Sidmouth, as part of the Waitrose extension.

A NEW zebra crossing will be installed on Stowford Rise, Sidmouth, as part of the Waitrose extension.

Called for by Sidmouth/Sidford Devon County Councillor Stuart Hughes, it will, he says, include the latest technology by having illuminated light poles; the only ones of their type in East Devon.

Torrington is the only other location in Devon to use them.

Mr Hughes said: "I am delighted the crossing is to be provided as part of the agreement for the extension to Waitrose, and it will provide a safe crossing for pedestrians and not only those using the store.

"I am also delighted that the crossing is to use the internally lit light poles.

"I have seen these in other counties and they are also being used around Westminster and certainly help draw motorists' attention to the crossing.
