TORTOISE owner Jenny Fensom has been searching the Newlands Close area of Sidmouth this week after pet tortoise Sophie went missing on Tuesday.
She is concerned for her 60-year-old pet's welfare as Sophie has recently undergone surgery and needs medication from the vet.
Sophie may have done a Houdini-type escape from her little garden hut or possibly have been taken, some time between 10.30am and 3pm on Tuesday.
"She has never wandered off before," said her owner, who has had Sophie for 20 years.
"She has to be checked every two to three weeks by the vet and medication given if necessary.
"We have searched the area thoroughly. She is easy to recognise as she has a pink patch on top of her shell and underneath."
