A poignant production about the effect of World War One on two Sidmouth families has raised £1,500 for Sid Valley causes.

Sid Vale Community Productions (SCVP) delighted audiences with their original show A Painful Duty, which took place ahead of the centenary anniversary of the end of the conflict.

Following the three night production, the company presented £750 each to Sidmouth Town Band and the town’s Royal British Legion branch, The show, which was written by Ruth Lewis and Christine Hardy, focused on the lives of the Channing and Clode families.

Christine said: “The money was raised from three performances of the play which has had incredibly warm and moving feedback from the Clode and Channing families and others in Sidmouth who recognised their ancestors among characters in the play.”

The last copies of the show are on sale at Paragon Books.
