Sidmouth Consolidated Charities donated the money to the band to put towards its youth section.

Sidmouth Town Band has received a ‘significant’ boost to develop its youth section.

Sidmouth Consolidated Charities donated £1,100 to the group to invest in its young members and training band.

The grant came from a legacy left by music teacher Marjorie Bladon.

It will be spent on a new drum kit for its newly recruited percussionists and on music and uniforms.

Town band chairman Martin Cordy, said: “Any donations to the band are always well received, but to receive a donation targeted at the development of the youth and training band will have a significant impact on the development of musical talent and help sustain the future of the band for years to come.”

Sidmouth Consolidated Charities offers grants to residents in Sidford, Sidmouth, Sidbury and Salcombe Regis facing hardship. Requests for grants can be made by writing to: the Administrator - Mrs Ruth Rose, 22 Alexandria Road, EX10 9HB or by emailing ruth.rose@eclipse.co.uk
