SMASHED: Vandals left a trail of destruction when they smashed five windows at Sidmouth Rugby Club at the weekend. The criminal damage was inflicted at the Heydons Lane premises between New Year’s Eve, Saturday, December 31, and Tuesday of this week. DAMAGE: A car parked in High Street, Sidmouth, was the victim of an act of criminal damage between New Year’s Eve, December 31, and New Year’s Day, January 1. Police have appealed for information and can be contacted by dialling 101, crime reference: KS/12/4.

SAILING: Sidmouth Sailing Club has asked the town council for use of the Ham for boat parking for a series of events in 2012. These include the Scorpion Open on May.

CAMP AMERICA: Young people from the Sidmouth area are being urged to attend Camp America recruitment fairs this month.

The nearest will take place from 12pm on Saturday, January 28, at Kensington Town Hall, London.

The Camp America programme allows young people, aged 18-25, the chance to spend nine weeks living and working on a summer camp in the USA.

TREE DAMAGE: Sidmouth Town Council financed urgent work to make a tree safe at the boundary of Manstone Recreation Ground and Meadway last month after a branch collapsed and fell into the garden of a house in Meadway, damaging the owner’s summerhouse.

The council’s chairman authorised the some of �240 to make the tree safe and a further �120 to cover the cost of repairs to the summerhouse.

BYES: Following the announcement by the Friends of the Byes/Bee Project Group of a �44,399 grant to carry out improvements in the Byes parkland, Sidmouth Town Council has heard the group hopes to complete its enhancement work by the spring of 2012.

This will include planting trees, a jubilee wood, hedging, community orchard and creating wildlife trails and educational resources.
