CHRISTIANS from Sidmouth's churches took part in the walk of witness on Pentecost Sunday.

They set out simultaneously from Salcombe Regis and Sidbury churches and converged at Sidford.

They visited all 'Churches Together in Sidmouth' member churches in the Sid Valley as they walked towards the centre of the town.

In each church they prayed together and celebrated Christian unity. Michael Edgecumbe, of CTiS, said: "Pentecost is the great festival that marks the birth of the Christian church by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost means '50th day' and is celebrated 50 days after Easter and the walk symbolised the spreading of the Christian faith on foot, from Jerusalem to the rest of the world."

The walkers are pictured after arriving at Sidmouth Parish Church for tea prior to joining with the congregation for an ecumenical service.

The service was led by Prebendary Reverend David James and the Preacher was Father Daniel Longland of the Roman Catholic Church.
