An eight-year-old rising star from Sidmouth will be representing the region to reach next month’s national climbing competition.
George Anning only took to the walls a year ago, but managed to take second place overall in the South West.
He followed his dad Gary up the wall and soon overtook him, as well as many other youngsters of his own age and older.
“I’ve not been climbing long but I like it,” said George.
“I’m looking forward to Edinburgh.”

The Malden Road resident explained that the sport involves climbing up three different routes, and competitors get more points the higher they get. After George’s success in the South West, he will be representing the region in the British Mountaineering Council’s competition in Edinburgh.
“We’re all behind him,” said Gary.
