DRIVERS are putting the lives of pedestrians at risk by failing to stop at a zebra crossing in Sidmouth.
Police say they have been inundated with reports of motorists ignoring road laws at the crossing in Woolbrook, near the Jet Garage.
Sergeant Andy Turner, of Sidmouth Police, said: "We have received a number of complaints and we take it very seriously. A car versus a pedestrian can result in serious injury or death.
"It is not acceptable for motorists to ignore zebra crossings."
Police are setting up a covert operation to monitor this area and spot motorists who are breaking the rules.
Sergeant Turner added: "People will be taken to court and they can have three points taken off their licence and a �60 fine.
