Sightseers risk lives near cliffs in Sidmouth

Coffee-clutching sightseers have been pictured risking their lives by clambering over a potentially fatal cliff fall just after it had plunged hundreds of feet onto Sidmouth’s East Beach.

Despite official warnings, the pair were spotted clambering over the mound of rubble containing a £3,000 summerhouse shortly after it had plummeted.
The remains of the plush summerhouse belonging to Cliff Road resident Paul Griew can be seen scattered across the debris which fell to the beach on Tuesday.
A warning has been issued to not walk on the beach by authorities.
East Devon District Council issued a warning about the dangers of the beach saying the cliffs were very unpredictable and urged people not to go on the beach.

An authority spokeswoman said: “There has been significant rock fall from cliffs at East Beach, Sidmouth.
“Please could people not go on East Beach. The cliffs are very unpredictable.”

But the pair carrying takeaway coffees ignored the warning.
One eyewitness was stunned, saying: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“Hundreds of tons of rubble had only just fallen from the cliff and these two were just casually strolling around it.
“Another landslide could have happened at any moment.”
