The Horticultural Society in Beer is holding a silent auction to raise money for flowers for the village after the council cut its funding.

Two numbered and signed prints by the famous painter Michael Morgan were donated by Marine House and Steam Gallery to help the Horticultural Society purchase plants as part of the ‘Flowers for Beer’ campaign.

Due to budgetary cuts by East Devon District Council the group hasn’t received a donation to cover the cost of the hanging baskets and planter displays for the summer in the village, and is hoping the proceeds of the secret auction will help cover the shortfall this year.

The pictures can be viewed in Steamers Restaurant on Newcut, and if you wish to make a bid, put a sealed envelope stating your bid price, picture preference, name, address and telephone number through the letterbox of Pegasus Cottage, Fore Street, Beer. The winners will be announced at the Beer Flower Show in the Mariners Hall, Beer, on Thursday, August 4 at 4pm.
