MORE than 1,100 pupils from across the Sid valley took part in a music day at St John's School last week. Pupils from St John's, All Saints Infants, Branscombe Primary School, St Nicholas, Sidmouth Infants and Newton Poppleford schools took part in the event. Malcolm Foster, director of music at St John's, said: "The schools joined together in workshops, performed in a concert and made new friends. "Sidmouth Gospel Choir, Drum Crazy, Sara Hurley and Comart, which is a choir of young people from South Africa, entertained and taught groups of children aged five to 11. "The groups that led the workshops performed as did many pupils, who had been in the workshops. "All the pupils joined together to sing Drop in the Ocean and Sailing, despite the weather, which had drenched most of the pupils at some stage." He said the schools intended to make the event an annual one and he thanked all the teachers and helpers who contributed to the day.
