DISTRICT councillors will visit Branscombe Airfield on Friday to carry out a site inspection before deciding on its fate.

Last week, members of EDDC's Development Control Committee voted for a site inspection to take place after they could not come to an agreement about the contentious planning application.

Submitted by Mr Hayman, owner of the airfield, the planning application is to allow for 250 take-offs and landings per year, to host an annual charity air day, to host youth experience days and to host a Devon strutt fly-in once a year.

However the application has been met with animosity by nearby residents and EDDC received 32 letters of objection prior to their planning meeting last week.

Mr Hayman submitted a noise survey earlier in the year but councillors were concerned that the noise pollution would be too great for those living near the airfield.

Although Councillor Tony Reed, chairman, motioned to approve the application, members of the committee voted eight to four to carry out a site inspection.

Mr Hayman has said he will go to appeal if the application is refused.

The inspection will take place at 9.30am followed by a committee meeting at 11am in the Committee Room in the Knowle.
