The first-ever Sidmouth Daffodil Day will be held at Kennaway House on Saturday, March 3.
The event, organised by the Sidmouth Daffodil Society, will feature walks to sites where the valley’s iconic flowers have been planted, and a talk at 11am by Lady Christine Skelmersdale, who holds the national collection of Alec Gray hybrids.
Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winners will also be in attendance at a plant fair in the grounds of the house.
A society spokesperson said: “The idea of this annual event is to establish Sidmouth as a centre for the promotion of daffodils, especially the early varieties which can benefit from the valley’s benign early spring climate and highlight the wonderful planting by the Sidmouth community.”
The Sidmouth Daffodil Society formed last year to build on the achievements of the Million Bulbs scheme – the vision of benefactor Keith Owen – and to promote further planting throughout the valley.
Entry is free to the event, which will run from 10am to 3pm.
