NEWTON Poppleford Art Society has teamed up with Darts Farm, Topsham, for a floral fundraiser.

The society has assembled a giant version of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, comprising 49 squares and measuring 7ft by 6ft, for Hospiscare. Society members, Darts Farm staff, and Justin Leigh of BBC’s Spotlight have painted squares in oils or acrylics. Society artists will donate a minimum of 5 per square, plus sponsorship.

The reproduction will initially hang at the society’s annual exhibition, at Newton Poppleford School, from Wednesday, July 28 to Wednesday, August 4 from 10am to 6pm daily. After that, it will be displayed at Darts Farm food hall where for a 1 a go customers can guess who painted which square – for a range of prizes.

Customers will also be encouraged to pick their own sunflower from a field specially grown by the store, in return for a donation to Hospiscare.

The society produced a giant mosaic version of an L S Lowry picture in aid of the charity in 2008, raising 750. It now has pride of place at the hospice in Exeter.
