BEER Horticultural Society’s 2010 show was a feast for the senses.
Offering everything from floral displays to home-made brownies, loaves and wine, the event, at Mariners Hall on Thursday, attracted 350 visitors and raised £138 for society funds.
Multi-prize-winner John Lang, of Underleys, Beer, said: “It’s an enjoyable event to be part of, but we need more exhibitors.”
Grace Duvall, six, had been down on holiday last year and was so keen to enter she asked her parents Karl and Clare to return. This paid off, as she won the best decorated pebble class.
There was a bit of sibling rivalry as Clinch sisters Molly, seven, and Jessica, 10, of Barline, Beer, came first and second in the funniest animal veg class. Jessica won the vase of wild flowers. Nathan Crowley, from Liverpool, said: “There’s an impressive selection of local talent, especially the flowers.”
Society chairman Ursula Makepeace said the show had attracted more visitors and more quality exhibits than in previous years. She added: “We hope next year even more children will submit exhibits because they enjoy it and so do the adults.”
