Sidmouth Surf Lifesaving Club’s DIY SOS, pleading for help to refurbish its new headquarters, has been answered.
The news comes at the same time that a £10,000 lottery grant was used to purchase some new racing skis. The equipment will be used in competitions, helping the club develop its 50-strong competitive squad which, over the last four years, has been highly successful at a county and national level.
Wilmott Dixon have also pledged to help them make their new home at the Arches, on The Esplanade, fit for purpose, as well as vowing to help kit out their new kit storage facility at Port Royal. The company has been fundraising with a ‘Row the Atlantic’ initiative, covering the equivalent of Bristol to New York - 5,400km. Some of the machines were brought to Sidmouth last week to allow the youngsters to help add to the target. Dave Manley, the club’s chairman and head coach, said: “Wilmott Dixon’s support for the club could not have come at a better time for the it.”
