TWO new special constables have joined Sidmouth Police to patrol the streets during the summer months.
TWO new special constables have joined Sidmouth Police to patrol the streets during the summer months.
"With the foreign students here throughout the summer there is a need for more officers to be on the streets to deal with any antagonism between local youths and foreign students," PC Steve Lemon, neighbourhood beat manager, told Sidmouth town councillors on Monday.
"Students hang around in gangs and stand around in the Byes."
He said the specials would work Friday and Saturday nights from 6pm to 1am.

Of Op Piva, a police initiative to target underage drinking and anti-social driving in Sidmouth, which is now in its fourth year, PC Lemon said: "I believe that so far it has been a great success.
"As well as dealing with anti-social behaviour and underage drinking, we have also been targeting anti-social driving.

"This week four lucky owners of vehicles will be receiving letters ordering them to identify who was driving said cars at a particular time/date as a possible prosecution is pending.
