'REMEMBER remember the first of November' is the message from this year's Sidbury Fireworks organisers.

The spectacular event will go off with a bang as £7000 worth of fireworks will be setting the November sky alight.

Sidbury fireworks display is now the biggest in Devon with over 2500 revellers attending last year.

Brad Jenkins, chairman of Sidbury bonfire and fireworks committee, said: "It is going to be spectacular with fireworks fired over the lakes and it will be a brilliant family evening.

"This is our ninth year and is our biggest budget yet.

"It is supported by the local committee who work six months of the year for the event and it has grown from strength to strength."

The event, which is set in the grounds around the lakes of Sidbury Manor, promises to be an entertaining evening and will feature a light show with flying lanterns.

Popular band Nula and the Alchemy Quartet, who recently performed at Glastonbury Festival and Beautiful Days, will be taking to the stage at 6pm.

Pupils from local school Sidbury Primary have made a six foot Guy Fawkes to be set alight on the bonfire.

Refreshments will be available with local butcher Rob Drew barbecuing his home made burgers and hot dogs in the food marquee and no fireworks display would be complete without toffee apples.

A full bar including mulled wine brewed to a secret recipe will be on sale.

All proceeds go to local charities and organisers are hoping to raise over £2000 after the success of last year.

Safety is a big issue at the display and plenty of stewards will be on hand to keep the public safe.

Organisers have requested the public not to bring sparklers as they are a hazard to livestock. Instead, glowsticks and flashing necklaces will be available at cost price.

Devon County Highways have assured the organisers that the A375 road, which runs through Sidbury, will be open.

Gates will open at 5.30pm on Saturday, November 1 with ample parking space adjacent to the drive.

Entry costs £5 for adults and £3 for children under the age of 14.
