Town neighbourhood beat manager PC Jim Tyrrell said the two factors were different entities when he addressed town councillors concerns on dangerous driving. Councillors had highlighted particular worries on stretches in Sidford and Sidbury. Weve done some speed gathering data in various locations over the past couple of months. The figures have been encouraging, said PC Tyrrell. Actual recorded speeds have been somewhat less than peoples perception. They are different entities. PC Tyrell said of driving offences: If we are there and we see it happen then we will deal with it accordingly. We cant be in all places at all times. At a full council meeting last Monday, Councillor Christine Drew asked for speed checks to be carried out between Sidford and Sidbury once the current roadwork situation calms down. Cllr Jack Brokenshire expressed concern over Sidford Cross and High Street. You take your life into your hands trying to cross the road. Theres been quite a few near misses, he said. Cllr Mary Jolly wanted speed checks in Sidmouths Station Road.
