BREAST Cancer Campaign wants to challenge everyone in Devon and Cornwall to step up to beat breast cancer this May Bank Holiday - by taking part in our new individual walking event, STEP ON IT.

The challenge is to walk a step for every person diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK this year - that's 46,000 steps - in 46 hours over this weekend. You can do this on your own, with friends, colleagues or even walking the dog.

Simply ask your family and friends to sponsor you for every step you take and help Campaign to continue funding vital breast cancer research.

Events Executive, Sarah England, said: "We're thrilled to launch this new walking initiative and hope that lots of people in and around Devon and Cornwall will enjoy counting their steps while raising money for Breast Cancer Campaign. It's a really easy idea and a great challenge for anyone who loves to walk. And what better weekend to STEP ON IT than the Bank Holiday in May when you can count your steps while out visiting tourist spots, at the shops or perhaps while you're strolling through the countryside on your long weekend off work?"

The Bank Holiday weekend also follows Walk to Work week so if you're planning to leave your car and walk to work, why not carry on walking just a few more days for breast cancer research? 46,000 steps is approximately 23 miles - in that distance you could:

Walk from Land's End to St Ives

Take in beautiful scenery along the Tarka Trail in North Devon.

Enjoy a coastal walk from Plymouth to Heybrook Bay

Not only is STEP ON IT a simple, fun challenge but walking is great exercise that's good for your health; it helps prevent weight gain and boosts energy levels promoting a feeling of general well being. Regular exercise is also important in reducing the risk of a number of diseases including breast cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, colon cancer, and osteoporosis.

Sign up today and we will send you a pedometer, hints and tips on how to clock up your steps and sponsorship forms. Don't worry if you can't STEP ON IT during the Bank Holiday weekend - you can always choose your own time frame to complete the challenge.
