SIDMOUTH'S Lifeboat crew cut short a training demonstration on Sunday to rush to the aid of four stricken people on a beach east of Beer, only to find it was a false alarm.
Crew members, who were heading back onto dry land after performing an exercise as part of an open day event, then had to perform a tricky "reverse launch" back into the sea after receiving the shout.
Despite the high-speed response, the people, who were waving to a nearby boat, had made their way back to safety upon the crew's arrival.
